Ready Player Me (New Funding)

Ready Player Me, an avatar platform for the metaverse that lets users explore virtual worlds with one identity (similar to universal app sign-ups or log-ins with your Google account), gained USD $56 million in Series B funding. $85.5M in total funding over 8 rounds. This funding will be used to create greater customization with third party developer tools for creators to upload their own stuff.

Meta’s Next VR Headset

On the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is releasing its next headset in October. Zuckerberg still hasn’t publicly named the upcoming device (codenamed Project Cambria). Eye and face tracking are assumed to be notable features in the new device.

Nike’s 50th Anniversary

In celebration of Nike’s 50th anniversary, BUCK joined with the Nike Global Brand Experience team to bring Nike’s journey and future possibilities to life in stores with a WebAR experience to reflect the brand’s “DNA” (Department of Nike Archives). No app is needed to engage with the Nike experience. Visitors to the store can unlock artifacts using their phone’s camera to scan the QR codes. Each of the 11 stories comprising the experience is inside a virtual box that opens up several artifacts. Visitors can explore the artifacts with touch gestures.
