Snapchat’s New Sign Language Lens

Snap Inc. announced its new ASL Alphabet Lens for Snapchat. Available now on The Lens uses AR to teach you the basics of the American Sign Language Alphabet with games to test your skills. You can also find out how to “fingerspell” your name using Snap’s hand tracking technology.

Meta Cancels Their Developer Conference Again

Meta is cancelling its F8 developer conference for 2022. Meta has also skipped F8 in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year however, the company says it’s taking a break to work on the Metaverse. “Similar to years past, we are taking a brief break in programming and will not hold F8 in 2022 while we gear up on new initiatives that are all tailored towards the next chapter of the internet, and the next chapter of our company too: building the metaverse,” Meta said in their blog post.

They will still be doing their business event called “conversations” on May 19th.

10 “Metaversities” Are Launching In The US This Fall

VR company Engage XR announced it is partnering with VR education specialists VictoryXR to open 10 virtual universities, aka “Metaversities,” in the United States. Starting this Fall, certain colleges will open twin digital campuses created by VictoryXR on Engage XR’s social VR platform. The partnership is being funded by Meta’s Immersive Learning, a program to support the next generation of metaverse content creators.

Students will receive a Meta Quest 2 headset to access their universities in VR.
